Papazian's Lovebite Wheat Beer
This recipe if from Charlie Papazian's "New Complete Joy of
Homebrewing", page 192.
Ingredients
- 3 pounds Wheat Malt Extract
- 4 pounds Light German Malt Extract
- 2 packages Red Star Ale Yeast
- 1.0 oz Hallertauer (boiling) hops
O.G. 1.041
F.G. 1.014
Method
Add malt extracts and boiling hops to 2 gallons of water, and boil for 1 hour.
Put 2 gallons of water into a 5 gallon carboy to act as a temperature
shock-barrier, sparge the wort from the brewpot into the carboy, and fill the
rest of the way up.
Pitching
The initial pitch of the Red Star showed no activity after a few hours, so
impatient me pitched with 2 packages of Paul Arnauer Bottom Fermenting Yeast. Of
course, at the time I had no idea that I was using a Lager Yeast and and Ale
Yeast.
